Media: For this 20" x 19" painting, I used watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, and traditional watercolors on Arches Paper.

Since I don't have the means to do digital art, I decided to take the traditional approach.

First of all, I printed out the stock photos provided for us. And with that, I started to compose an image by moving the photos around until I got an idea I was most pleased with.

With the help of my art projector, I placed the photos I chose (gazing kitten, isolated strawberry, technicolor clock, and lone pineapple).

Originally, I was going to put the cat's head on the pineapple, but while I was moving the images around on the projector, a way better idea came to my mind.

The cat is in bed trying to sleep but he can't.
His head is on the strawberry which I made into a soft pillow. He's looking at the clock which is taunting him. It's seven in the morning and the cat has not slept a wink.

Eventhough, we can see the clock face to face, we are looking at the clock from the cat's point of view as he lies there in bed.

The pineapple was tricky. At first, I was going to give the cat a pineapple body but it wasn't working out for my taste. Then suddenly while moving the photo around in my projector, I start to notice the patterns on the pineapple. So, instead of using it for the body, I decided to use the patterns and create a blanket for the cat to use.

The swirling patterns in the background represent the cat's sleepless state of mind.

For this 20" x 19" painting, I used watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, and traditional watercolors on Arches Paper taped to my bedroom wall. Painting like this presented quite an interesting challenge for me since I'm accustomed to doing watercolors flat on a table.

This took me like 4 to 5 days to do.
It was quite the challenge!
